LSU wins SEC Championship, USC wins SEC East

The LSU Tigers beat the second ranked South Carolina Gamecocks 3-2 in ten innings on Saturday before a sold out crowd of 8,242 at Carolina Stadium, to win the SEC Championship. LSU plated two runs in the top of the tenth with RBI singles by Jackson Slaid and Mason Katz. Gamecocks starting pitcher Colby Holmes tossed 6.2 innings. The former Conway High star allowed four hits and no earned runs. Holmes did not figure in the decision. The Gamecocks ended the regular season with an overall record of 39-15, 18-11 in the SEC. LSU won the SEC Championship by taking two of three in the weekend series at South Carolina. The Gamecocks captured the SEC East title. South Carolina is the No. 2 seed in the upcoming SEC Tournament beginning on May 22 at Regions Park in Hoover, Alabama. The Gamecocks have a first round bye. They will play on Wednesday against the low seed winner of either #3 Florida vs #10 Auburn or #5 Vanderbilt vs #8 Georgia.

The Wake Forest Demon Deacons beat the Clemson Tigers 7-0 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Wake scored six runs with two out in the fifth inning at Wake Forest Baseball Park. Clemson finished the regular season with a record of 32-24, 16-14 in the ACC. The Tigers will play at least three games in the ACC Tournament, which starts on Wednesday. Clemson's post season schedule will be announced on Sunday.

The Big South Conference Champion Coastal Carolina Chanticleers beat the Charleston Southern Buccaneers 2-0 in the regular season finale for both teams. Javier Reynoso tossed six scoreless innings and Luke Willis doubled home Tucker Frawley to put CCU ahead to stay. The Chants swept the series from Charleston Southern and finished the regular season with an overall record of 37-17, 18-5 in the Big South. The CCU pitching staff has the best ERA in the nation at 2.49. Coastal will be the top seed at the Big South Conference Baseball Tournament, slated for May 22-26 at High Point University's Williard Stadium. CCU will play Charleston Southern in the opening round on May 22 at approximately 1 p.m. The CCU-CSU game will follow the 9:30 a.m. opener between Gardner-Webb and Radford.
