Ryan Rector's solo homer in the top of the 8th inning gave Palmetto High a 1-0 win over Dillon in game one of the 2A softball state championship series. The game featured solid pitching from Dillon starter Darby Hamer and Mustangs hurler Tabitha Allen. The Wildcats were thrown out at home plate two times. In the 6th inning, Rebecca Callahan delivered a smash to short that was fieldedby Brittany Houston, who fired to first for the out. Landon Bulloch quickly fired to home and catcher Emma Ogburg was able to get the tag just in time to get Shayna Covington out. In the top of the 8th, Rector launched a high fly ball to centerfield. Dillon centerfielder Tara Grimsley nearly pulled it from over the fenche, but Rector rounded the bases for the only run fo the game. Game two is set for Wednesday in the Upstate.
