Latta is one win away from reaching the state finals in class 1A high school softball. The Vikings will host the winner of Thursday night's East Clarendon/GSF winner on Friday with two chances to advance to the state finals.
Head coach Michael Rogers is stepping down after 22 seasons as the Vikings softball coach. Rogers will join Dillon high school as an assistant principal. Under Rogers, Latta reached the 1A state finals for four consecutive years from 2003-2006 losing to Indian Land all four times. Rogers spent five years as Latta's varsity football head coach from 2001 through 2006.
"Softball's been my passion," Rogers said. "It's dictated my springs for the past 22 years." While he will miss coaching softball, he'll get the chance to spend more time with his family.
