On Wednesday, Coastal Carolina three year starter Sam McLaurin announced that he was transferring from Coastal Carolina for his final year of eligibility.  McLaurin, who has a 3.4 GPA, is on track to graduate from CCU in May.  Normally, a student athlete would need to sit out a season for a Division I transfer, but players with degrees can transfer to a school that doesn't offer its major without penalty.  McLaurin is looking to pursue a law degree and told WPDE Sports that academics was the main reason for his transfer.

McLaurin averaged 9.7 points and 7.6 rebounds a game this past season for the Chanticleers, but those numbers were deceiving.  Big South teams often packed the paint to try and slow down McLaurin.  He shined against LSU posting 13 points, 16 rebounds and 3 blocked shots in the upset win and his final game as a Chanticleer featured a 20 point performance against Old Dominion in the CollegeInsider.com tournament.

McLaurin is waiting on his release to get signed by all parties.  Once that happens, his recruitment will open.  There's no favorite on which school would land McLaurin since no one is allowed to contact him until the release is given per NCAA rules.  McLaurin says that he will not be allowed to transfer to a Big South school or any school that is on Coastal's 2012-13 schedule.
