Tommy "Two Gloves" Gainey
In 2011, Tommy "Two Gloves" Gainey had a breakthrough year on the PGA Tour. The Bishopville, South Carolina product made more than $2-million in earnings. Now in his fifth year on tour, Gainey is still in search of his first PGA win.
The 36-year old Gainey is off to a slow start this season. He has played in ten events, made only three cuts, and a little more than $46-thousand in prize money. He told NewsChannel 15 Sports that he hopes to get his game back on track at the RBC Heritage which begins on Thursday morning at Harbour Town Golf Links in Hilton Head, South Carolina. Gainey's tee time is 7:40 a.m.
Gainey was in contention at the Houston Open two weeks ago. But a Sunday collapse moved him down the leaderboard into a tie for 42nd place.
Gainey says he has fully recovered from a wrist injury that affected his play earlier this year. He says he is anxious to play at the course where he had his best tour finish last year.
Gainey missed a 15-foot putt on the 72nd hole that would have tied clubhouse leader Brandt Snedeker at The Heritage in 2011. Instead, Gainey finished third. "You make putts, you got a chance to win," Gainey said.
