The High Point Panthers hit 11 of 22 three-point attempts on Thursday night at Kimbel Arena, on the way to a 70-65 win over the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers in Conway, South Carolina.
High Point's Shay Shine led all scorers with 24 points. Shine and Devante Wallace each buried four 3's as the Panthers scored their first road win over Coastal Carolina during the Cliff Ellis era, High Point's first win in Conway since 2007.
Coastal trailed by eight at halftime. They cut the lead to one point late in the game but never took the lead. Three CCU players finished in double-figures. Kierre Greenwood led the way with 18, Chris Gradnigo had 15 and Sam McLaurin ended up with a dozen.
The Chanticleers launched 26 three-point attempts, connecting on just seven. There were only three lead changes. CCU's leading scorer, Anthony Raffa, was held to just nine points.
High Point improved their overall record to 10-15 and 6-9 in the Big South Conference. Coastal Carolina fell to 17-7 overall and 10-4 in the Big South Conference. The Chants are now one game behind Campbell in the win column for second place in the regular season conference standings after the Camels defeated Winthrop 67-58.
Coastal Carolina is in the midst of a four game stretch over an eight day period. The Chants travel to Rock Hill, S.C. to face the Winthrop Eagles on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
