Auburn upsets #10 South Carolina in Columbia

The Auburn Tigers pulled off a major upset on Saturday by beating the 10th ranked South Carolina Gamecocks 16-13 at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia. Barrett Trotter threw a 9-yard TD pass to Phillip Lutzenkirchen for the game-winner with 1:38 left in the contest.

Michael Dyer led Auburn with 141 yards rushing on 41 carries with one TD. South Carolina's Heisman Trophy candidate Marcus Lattimore was held to just 66 yards rushing with one score on 17 carries.

Gamecocks quarterback Stephen Garcia completed 9 of 22 passes for 160 yards and one TD. He also threw two interceptions.

Auburn took an early 3-0 lead on a Cody Parker 22-yard field goal. South Carolina countered with a 50-yard TD pass from Garcia to Alshon Jeffery to take a 6-3 lead after one quarter.

Auburn took a 9-6 halftime lead on a 1-yard TD run by Dyer. In the third quarter, Lattimore scored on a 15 yard run to put the Gamecocks back in front 13-9. Trotter then hooked up with Lutzenkirchen to cap a 12-play, 57 yard drive for the game-winner.

South Carolina is now 4-1 overall, 2-1 in the SEC. Auburn improves to 4-1 overall, 2-0 in the SEC. Auburn has now won 11 consecutive SEC games.

The Gamecocks will host the Kentucky Wildcats on Saturday, October 8 at Williams-Brice Stadium. Kickoff is set for 12:21 p.m.
