Jordan Lyles first major league win did not come on Sunday at Wrigley Field. Lyles threw six innings against the Chicago Cubs, give up 3 earned runs and striking out five in getting a no decision. The Cubs went on to a 5-4 win in ten innings to sweep Houston on Sunday afternoon. Lyles made his major league debut against the Cubs and continues to be haunted by a lack of run support.
Lyles had one rough inning and five scoreless frames. In the second, Lyles would surrender back to back RBI doubles to put the Cubs in front 2-1. Then pitcher Matt Garza recorded his first career RBI on a base hit to right to make it a 3-1 game. From there, Lyles settled down and also recorded his second MLB hit and his first run scored thanks to an infield single in the 5th.
The Astros have announced that they will shut Lyles down after he reaches 170 innings pitched (combined for both the minors and majors). Lyles has now pitched 120 1/3 innings this season. He's tied the Astros record for most starts without a win to start a career (ten starts).
