A former Timmonsville Whirlwind is getting his shot at the SEC.  WR Antonio Jones will be part of the Tennessee Volunteers.  Jones played junior college football at Garden City Community College.  He last played for the Whirlwinds in 2008, contributing to the Whirlwinds reaching the 1A quarterfinals.

Timmonsville coach Jimmy Woods gave us this release:

Antonio Jones,(6’5’’ 215 lbs) class of 2009 WR/S at Timmonsville High School has accepted an offer to play football at the University of Tennessee. The offer comes after completion his junior college career in Kansas. This offer of playing for the Volunteers will bring him back closer to home as he has played for Garden City Community College for the past 2 years as wide receiver. During his senior season at THS, Antonio  caught  7 TD passes and recorded 129 tackles with 2 of those touchdowns coming during a triple overtime loss to the eventual state champion, Scotts Branch. At Garden City, Antonio earned a starting position at WR and was the 2nd leading receiver at that position as a freshman. As a sophomore Injuries slowed his progress and prevented completion of his second year of participation. Antonio is excited about the opportunity to play SEC football and the prospect of playing closer to home.
