Hartsville High product Jordan Lyles pitched five full innings for the Houston Astros in a 2-1 loss to the Boston Red Sox at Minute Maid Park in Houston on Sunday. Lyles gave up only three hits while striking out four. He did not allow an earned run. But Lyles had location problems, walking five batters, and was pulled with the game tied 1-1.

The Red Sox scored the go-ahead run on a bases-loaded walk to former Florence Redwolves star Kevin Youkilis to give Boston a 2-1 victory. Red Sox starting pitcher Josh Beckett struck out 11 and improved his record to 7-3.

Lyles threw a total of 101 pitches against the Red Sox. 57 of them were strikes. The right-hander has a record of 0-3 with a 4.17 ERA after seven starts with the Astros. The 20-year old Lyles is the youngest player in Major League Baseball.
