The closest balloting in Hoop Zone history had Kinard Gadsden-Gilliard and Ashley Clarke capture Mister and Miss Hoop Zone 2008. The duo took home the big trophies during the 8th annual Hoop Zone banquet on March 10th at the Holiday Inn Hard Rock Parkway. In previous years, Mister and Miss Hoop Zone balloting was reserved for 15 area high school coaches.

The closest balloting in Hoop Zone history had Kinard Gadsden-Gilliard and Ashley Clarke capture Mister and Miss Hoop Zone 2008. The duo took home the big trophies during the 8th annual Hoop Zone banquet on March 10th at the Holiday Inn Hard Rock Parkway. In previous years, Mister and Miss Hoop Zone balloting was reserved for 15 area high school coaches. With the race being so close, the balloting was expanded to include all 34 area high school coaches for both the boys and girls. The voting was so tight, an unprecedented five boys were on the podium. A mere 8 points seperated 1st through 5th place. Gilliard, a junior big man at Georgetown, topped Dillon's Lashay Page by two points. Hemingway's Tashan Fredrick got the most first place votes and finished in third with the Mullins duo of Eric Smith and Andrew Crawford right behind in fourth and fifth place.
On the girls side, Ashley Clarke becomes the second two time Miss Hoop Zone winner joining Christina Dewitt of North Myrtle Beach. Last year, Clarke outlasted Rubylee Wright of Latta by 10 points. This time around it was only a six point margin. Carolina Forest's Lakeith Alston finished in third.
