Coastal Carolina SID Press Release:

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina University men’s basketball team and head coach Cliff Ellis have signed Mike Davis (Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooklyn Academy (Seton Hall)) to a Financial Aid Agreement to the University, it was announced today.

Davis, a 6-11 center, played two years at Seton Hall University in South Orange, N.J., in the BIG EAST.  Davis appeared in 30 games for the Pirates last season, averaging 2.6 points and 2.3 rebounds a game.  He shot 45.6 percent from the field and was third on the team with 17 blocked shots.  Seven of his blocks were in BIG EAST contests.  Davis had a career-high 13 points in a win over St. Francis (N.Y.) Nov. 14 and grabbed a career-high nine rebounds in a win over Monmouth Dec. 2.  He also blocked two shots at Notre Dame Jan. 10.

Davis played in 31 games his freshman season, averaging 2.7 points and 2.5 rebounds a game.  He scored eight points, grabbed four rebounds and had four blocks against Louisville Jan. 19, and then pulled down seven rebounds at Villanova Feb. 9.  Davis had eight points and had three blocks against Syracuse March 5.  He also was on the BIG EAST Academic All-Star Team in 2008.

Davis was ranked the 17th-best center in the class of 2006 by the web site Rivals.com.  Davis will practice but not see game action in 2009-10 due to the NCAA transfer rules.

“Mike has a 7-5 wingspan, he’s long and he’s a big man down low but has range outside,” Ellis said.  “He’s kind of a big guy that reminds me of a couple of guys that have played for me in the past.  This is a tremendous low post signee for us.”

Davis joins Kierre Greenwood (Cincinnati, Ohio/Winton Woods (New Creations School (Ind.)), Devin Miller (Chicago, Ill./Martin Luther King (Kennedy-King College)), Tre Lee (Hampton, Va./Bethel) and Danny Nieman (Kannapolis, N.C./Concord (Hargave Military)) in the Coastal Carolina recruiting class for the 2009-10 academic year.
