The Coastal Carolina University Men's Basketball team scored a win the night after they lost a fellow classmate.

"It's one of the biggest games of the season to play Winthrop. At this time, I think it was really good game, at the right time for everybody to come together," said Senior Jamia Howard.

The game started off with a moment of silence to remember Anthony Liddell, a 19-year-old student from Bennettsville who was shot and killed at a university housing complex.

"It was traumatizing. I didn't know him personally, but to hear something like that and so close, it's really hard," said Howard.

Students packed the HTC Center ready for the game, but their thoughts on the shooting the night before.

"It's still pretty scary to know that there's somebody out there that has harmed somebody we probably passed by everyday," said Howard.

One of Liddell's professors said that he was a wonderful student.

"That's what I remember, he had a beautiful smile," said the teacher.

The flags on campus were at half staff on Wednesday.

There will be a candlelight vigil Thursday evening at Spadoni Park at 6 p.m.
