The five candidates for Horry County Council chairman talked about transportation, economic development and tourism promotion during a candidates forum in North Myrtle Beach Tuesday.

The North Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce sponsored the forum.

Candidates Al Allen, Liz Gilland, Debbie Harwell, Mark Lazarus and Fonzie Lewis talked about what they would do if elected and answered questions from the audience.

Those attending the forum say they wanted to hear what the candidates would do for North Myrtle Beach.

"Certainly they mentioned beach renourishment, which is critically important to our area, roads and the road networks and inter-connectivity, very important to our community, and they recognized the fact that North Myrtle Beach is different," said chamber member Rick Elliott.

A special election will be held March 12 to fill the remainder of the term for Tom Rice, who resigned as chairman after being elected to Congress.
