Myrtle Beach Marathon brings thousands to the beach

Around 7,000 people ran the 16th Annual Bi-lo Myrtle Beach Marathon this year.

This weekend's events also included a half marathon, fun run and 5K.

Runners competing in the half and full marathons took off at 6:30 Saturday morning from Broadway at the Beach. The course ended at the TicketReturn.com Field at Pelicans Ballpark.

The marathon took runners all the way across Myrtle Beach from 79th Avenue North to Market Common.

Dean Thompson, 47, placed first in this weekend's marathon with a final time of 2:39:14. Regina Horak, 23, a food science major from Madison, Wisconsin, won in the women's category with a time of 2:54:19.

This was Thompson's fifth marathon and Horak's third.
