Hundreds of veterans and troops stopped by the state's mobile vet center at Horry-Georgetown Technical College Thursday afternoon.

The unit provides troops with information for things like tuition and career building skills.

Workers say many veterans aren't aware of the benefits available.

More than 600 students at HGTC are veterans, but only 365 use their benefits like Veterans Retraining Assistance.

"They'll be wearing a veterans hat, and I'll ask them if they've heard of the new VRAP program. They'll say I've used up all my benefits. Then I'll say, 'no you haven't used this benefit yet.' And I'll tell them about the VRAP program and suddenly their eyes light up and they get interested. I can go to school free and have them pay for it and learn new skill out there," Stephen Stevens, with the HGTC Veterans Resource Center.

The veterans retraining assistance started less than two years ago, and helps vets receive training for employment.
