'Twas the day of christmas and all through the kitchen

Red Cross volunteers were working...too many to mention.

Making the dinner for thousands with care

In the hopes that hungry guests soon would be there.

Many sat waiting with friends to break bread

While visions of cranberry sauce danced in their heads.

They came to this place from miles and miles

Sharing christmas joy and holiday smiles.

When out in the hall there arose such a clatter

Dozens upon dozens rushed to fill their platter.

More rapid than waves crashing they came

Calling out the food they wanted by name.

Now, stuffing, now turkey and mashed potatoes too

On beans, on gravy and sweet potatoes just a few.

The blessing were heard as they stepped out of sight

Shouting Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!
