Highway Patrol investigates deadly crash in Florence County

South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly crash on US 378 near East Union Road in Florence County.

The wreck happened just after 11:00 p.m. Monday night, according to Lance Cpl. Sonny Collins.

A Cadillac was traveling westbound on US 378 when it crossed into oncoming traffic and hit a tractor trailer.

The driver of the car David Leon Bethea, 41 from Nichols in Marion County was not wearing a seatbelt and was killed, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Florence County Coroner Bubba Matthews said Bethea died from his injuruies sustained in the crash.

A passenger was taken to McLeod Regional Medical Center with injuries, but there's no word yet on if he or she was wearing a seatbelt.

The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured.
