Jose Santos Miramontes-Sanchez, 43, of Mexico, pleaded guilty to illegal reentry after deportation for an aggravated felony, according to United States Attorney Bill Nettles.

Miramontes-Sanchez was convicted of trafficking marijuana in North Carolina on September 6, 1996. After serving his sentence, Miramontes-Sanchez was deported on May 26, 2011.

On May 9, 2012, Miramontes-Sanchez was discovered living in Horry County and was arrested.

Nettles stated the maximum penalty can receive is a fine of $250,000 and/or imprisonment for 20 years.
