Deputies with the Florence County Sheriff's Office held an explosives demonstration as a part of its Amnesty For Ammo and Explosives Operation.

It's a way for you to dispose of any unused, outdated or unwanted ammunition and explosive devices without being prosecuted.

"From time to time folks discover that they have some of this material and don't know how to dispose of it," Sheriff Kenney Boone stated.

"Years ago, it was not uncommon for farmers, engineering firms, construction crews or anyone involved in moving dirt to possess this material. Some of that material may still be stored in old buildings or warehouses. Over time however, it can become unstable and pose a real risk to anyone who comes near it, especially small children. AAE is your opportunity to contact us at no cost or risk of prosecution for us to inspect the material where it is and arrange for proper and safe disposal."

During the week long operation, qualified ordinance and explosive experts will be available to answer calls concerning the material.

Anyone having or suspected to have explosive material is asked not to move, handle or disturb it, but contact the Florence County Sheriff's Office at (843) 665-2121, ext. 438.

You're asked not to bring the devices to the Sheriff's Office.

Deputies will come to your home to inspect the devices.

An assessment and plan for disposal will be developed for each case.
