A defensive lineman at the Hartsville football game against Crestwood at Kelly Town Stadium Friday night collapsed with five minutes left to go in the 2nd quarter.
Ronald Rouse collapsed on the field. He was able to walk off the field with the assistance of school trainers, but collapsed once more when he was on the sidelines.
While on the sidelines, Rouse was unresponsive, and EMS started performing chest compressions.
An AED (Automated External Defibrillator) was used to try and resuscitate Rouse.
EMS arrived at the football field 15 minutes after Rouse first collapsed.
Coaches were told Rouse was in critical condition at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center.
Rouse, number 74, is a senior at Hartsville and is 6'3", 335 lbs.
The game has resumed.
We are waiting for more details on Rouse's condition, and we will post more information as soon as it becomes available.
