It was a beautiful day to go fishing, and some kids from around Horry County got the chance to do just that Thursday through the annual Waccamaw Sertoma Club's fishing day for special needs kids.

About 75 students from elementary schools around the county baited their hooks, and hoped for the best at a farm on Highway 378 near Conway.

The purpose was to give the kids a chance to have a fun day fishing, and maybe learn a little something in the process.

"A lot of these kids will never get to do this again or haven't done it since and it's certainly a learning experience for them, But as far as the club is concerned, though, we just do it so they can have a good time," said Todd Browning, the Waccamaw Sertoma Club President.

Most of the fish caught Thursday were very small, and thrown back in the pond.

Browning says the Sertoma Club has been doing this fishing day for the kids for about 30 years.
