HARTSVILLE -- Darlington County Coroner Todd Hardee says Jeffery Scott Brown, 35, died after being caught in a machine used to make paper at Sonoco in Hartsville, Monday morning.

Sonoco Corporate Communications officer Robin Montgomery says it appears no one witnessed the accident.

He says they've shut down operations at the paper mill until further notice.

Montgomery adds this is a difficult time for the company and they're focused on Brown's family and his coworkers.

Brown started in a temporary position at Sonoco in February and was hired fulltime in July.

Sonoco is working with the Darlington County Sheriff's Office and the Darlington County Coroner's Office as they investigate what happened.

Sonoco's headquarters is in Hartsville and was founded in 1899. The company is a $4.1 billion global manufacturer of industrial and consumer products and packaging services.

The company has more than 300 operations in 34 countries, serving customers in 85 nations.
