Marion Man Sentenced on Charge of Aggravated Identity Theft

Kenneth Batton, 38, of Marion was sentenced to 46 months in prison, 3 years supervised release, and ordered to pay $11,959 in restitution after being convicted on wire fraud and aggravated identity theft charges in federal court.

Evidence presented at the change of plea hearing showed Batton used other people's identities to open accounts with adult chat lines, open bank accounts, get credit cards and obtain money from other people's accounts, that's according to U.S. Attorney Bill Nettles.

U.S. Secret Service investigated the care, Assistant U.S. Attorney William E. Day, II, of Florence handled the case.
