Officials with the Fourth Circuit Solicitors Office say Vontrell Canty pleaded guilty Tuesday to 53 counts of identity theft.

Prosecutors say Canty was sentenced to five years in prison, which was suspended to 172 days.

Court officials say the judge gave Canty credit for 152 days he's already spent in jail, and he'll have to serve the remaining 20 days.

Last January, Canty was working with a cleanup crew at First Citizens Bank in Bennettsville. He got a hold of some customers' personal information and used their identities to purchase all sorts of electronics, including televisions.

Court officials say Canty will be on probation for five years and has to pay restitution to the victims.

Officials say Canty will serve those 20 days on the weekends, so that he can keep his job to pay back the victims.
