Wanda Marshall and her daughter Aisha are alive and okay, but shaken up after a fire ignited inside their two story apartment off Burcale Road.

Horry County Fire Rescue responded to the fire shortly before noon Saturday.

When crews arrived, there was smoke showing from a two story multi-family home in the Courtyard Apartments. Crews were able to get a line on the fire in the floor and walls, and start to open up the third floor loft, HCFR Asst. Chief Justin Gibbins said on his Twitter page. Around 12:20 p.m., they extinguished the fire.

The smell of smoke and burnt debris still lingered hours after the fire had been put out. The majority of the damage was inside, and for safety and health reasons, the family was not allowed to go back inside except to get a few things that weren't destroyed in the blaze.

"I don't like that smell," little Aisha said.

Wanda declined an on camera interview with NewsChannel 15, saying that she just wanted to focus on finding a place to stay short term.

Gibbons said the fire was ruled accidental and it began near a heating unit.
