Horry County police say they've arrested a man who is accused of secretly getting into a woman's car at a gas station and then raping her.
On May 7, police were called to the Loris Community Hospital emergency room where the victim told officers she had been raped by a man who had snuck into her van while she was inside the Wilco at 5357 Broad Street. She said the man appeared from the back of the van, ordered her to turn on several unfamiliar roads, then raped her after she had pulled over.
The man, who said he had a gun, but never showed it, then had the victim drive about two miles back toward Wilco when he jumped out, according to the report. She also said he had given her personal information including his age, family details and criminal background.
Based on that information, Horry County police were able to identify the suspect. Anthony Jemell Grate, 32, is charged with Armed Robbery, 1st Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct and Kidnapping.
He's being held at J. Reuben Long Detention Center. Bond has not been set.
