A motorcyclist died at the hospital after a crash on Highway 544 in Horry County.

Horry County Coroner Robert Edge has identified the driver as 57-year-old Mitchell Lewellen of Mullins.

According to South Carolina Highway Patrol, the motorcycle and a car were both travelling west on Highway 544 near the intersection of Highway 17 Bypass at about 6:30 Saturday evening.  Troopers say the motorcyclist tried to change lanes and hit a car.

The motorcyclist died at the hospital. No one in the car was hurt. 

The crash is still under investigation by the Highway Patrol.
