A school targeted towards students who want to design and build cars is set to open in the fall.
Palmetto Academy for Learning Motorsports Charter School (PALM) gave tours of the building Wednesday.
The Academy is on Highway 501, across from Myrtle Beach Speedway. It was supposed to open this year, but the schools founder got sick.
Students can take classes in things like welding, manufacturing and digital media arts.
"As much as they say the economy's bad, you go by any body shop in Horry County that I know and if you had someone willing, with a little bit of skill, they're desperate needing people," Ron Miller, Vocational Director.
The school is geared toward students who struggle in a traditional school setting.
Students will get experience in the school's shops and on the job training at local businesses.
The school plans to enroll 100 students the first year and increase that number for the following two years.
