Mullins firefighters got a call of smoke coming from Mullins City Hall on East Front Street around midnight Wednesday.

Crews found a fire at an apartment in the back of a building near the city hall. They aren't sure what caused the fire.

Mullins Fire Chief Robert Stetson says Wise Guys Barbershop, Angela's Hair Salon, and LDH Signs and Graphics were damaged by the fire.

He says Mulllins City Hall had to be closed because of smoke damage. It will reopen at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Mullins Chamber of Commerce.

Stetson says the fire burned slowly because of the heavy timber construction of the buildings. He says that helped crews in battling the fire.

Stetson and the city's building inspector will walk through the businesses Wednesday to assess the damage.
