Wednesday afternoon, Horry County Councilman Bob Grabowski will meet with the South Carolina Ethics Commission about owing the commission $45,000 in ethics violation fees.

"They are claiming it's failure to file," said Grabowski. "But I closed my campaign account which means I don't have to file quarterly reports."

The state mandates that all campaigns file a quarterly report to give the Ethics Commission up-to-date financial records.

Grabowski said he did not file for almost two and half years because he did not believe he had to.

"I sent them a copy with the final report that said I closed the account, but they didn't receive it and now they won't accept it," said Grabowski. "They said I need to file it electronically but I can't electronically file something from two years ago that they didn't accept electronically then."

Grabowski said he closed his account with $600 left and reimbursed himself because he spent his own money on the campaign.

A move which is "totally legal," said Grabowski.

Grabowski said he spent less than $2000 on his entire campaign.

We will keep you updated throughout the day with the outcome of Grabowski's meeting with the Ethics Commission.
