A Myrtle Beach man was arrested after Horry County police say he fired a shot at a security officer through the door of an apartment off Hitchcock Way.

According to Horry County Police Sgt. Robert Kegler, Eric Levon McCrea, 30, was arrested around 1 a.m. Tuesday.

An Horry County Police Department press release said a security officer was investigating a larceny complaint around 11:40 p.m. When he knocked on the door of an apartment and identified himself as a security officer, someone inside fired a shot at the door, police say.

Horry County police and Horry County SWAT and Negotiations were then called to the apartment complex.

SWAT members determined that the suspect, later identified as McCrea, escaped through an apartment window, and was hiding in a neighbor's attic.

The neighbor wasn't charged, according to Sgt. Kegler.

McCrea was taken to J. Reuben Long Detention Center. He's charged with Attempted Murder and Possession of a Firearm by certain persons unlawful.
