The chairman of the Horry County Board of Education is stepping down.

Will Garland announced Monday night he's going to be leaving the Horry County Board of Education.

He said his last day would be in January 2013, or by the general election.

His position will be up for election in November.

"I feel like if you're going to do a job you need to commit 110% to it. And I don't feel like I can give that sort of effort and to the school district and still do the personal family things I want to do," he said.

Garland has served as Horry County Board of Education Chairman since 2002, and previously served two-years of a four-year term representing district 11, which includes schools in the Aynor, Conway, and Green Sea Floyds areas.
