CONWAY -- A juvenile charged with Attempted Criminal Sexual Conduct 2nd Degree appeared in a Conway courtroom for a detention hearing Friday. Conway police say he attacked and tried to rape a teacher at Whittemore Park Middle School Wednesday.

Assistant Solicitor Caroline Fox says the 13-year-old's lawyer requested a competency evaluation, which is done to determine if he suffers from any "mental defects." According to Fox, Judge Lisa Kinon set a deadline of March 23 for the evaluation to be complete and a tentative trial date of March 29.

The teen is being held at the Department of Juvenile Justice in Columbia.
