ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) - About 60 protesters in the Occupy Asheville movement have left their camp in front of city hall after the council voted to have them removed.

The Asheville Citizen-Times reports that three protesters were arrested Friday night after refusing to move their tents.

The activists, inspired by the Occupy Wall Street protests last fall, have been camped out on a sliver of land downtown for nearly three months.

This week, the council voted to make the land they were on part of a nearby city park, and to ban overnight camping on city property.

Protesters say that despite being moved from the encampment, they plan to continue demonstrating in Asheville over economic inequality, homelessness and other social problems.
