LITTLE RIVER -- Little River's third weekend in May will look the same as it has for the past 30 years.

"We've hired a new executive director," said Horry County Councilman Harold Worley. "The festival is in good hands."

In December, the Blue Crab Festival's committee announced the event was canceled. But, after those members were dismissed, Worley and residents of Little River have pushed the May 19-20 event forward.

Saturday, a group of more than 30 residents of Little River elected Tracie Waller as the festival's executive director and Hubert Bullard in charge of working with vendors, said Worley.

"We've already got $10,000 dollars in vendor receipts," said Worley.

Worley gave a majority of the credit to the residents who came together to continue the event.

"The people of Little River and the surrounding area want that Blue Crab Festival to continue. It was just a matter of bringing the right people together, and we've done that."
