Surfside Beach police charged Joshua Daniel Bell, 27, with Criminal Domestic Violence of a High and Aggravated Nature, Child Endangerment, Unlawful Neglect of a Child, Driving Under the Influence and Driving Under Suspension.
Police say Bell and his girlfriend got into an argument on February 5. The girlfriend told police Bell hit her in the nose and scratched her back. She said he tried to choke her and lock her in a bathroom so she couldn't call police.
The woman was able to get out of the house with her 2-year-old child and go next door to call police.
In the meantime, police say Bell left a 17-month-old child home alone when he left in an SUV. Police pulled over Bell in the SUV. They say he smelled of alcohol and told officers his license was suspended. Police say Bell had a 7-year-old child in the vehicle with him.
Police arrested Bell and took him to the Surfside Beach Police Department where they say he refused to give a breath sample.
Bond was set Tuesday at $52,717 for all charges.
