Many are skipping a simple doctors visit to save money because of the weak economy.

More than 1,500 people came out to the Grand Strand Regional Medical Center's 31st annual health fair at Coastal Grand Mall.

Many people waited for almost an hour for a blood test that would typically cost upwards of $700.

The blood profile includes a full lipid profile which is total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, trigelceride, calcium, iron, potassium, glucose, 30 different profiles, according to hospital spokesperson Joan Carroza.

People could also get blood pressure and asthma readings.Over 50 medical and healthcare exhibitors were be available for information and screenings.

Grand Strand Regional Medical Center had representatives discussing living wills, nutrition, diabetes, general hospital information, senior health, volunteers and surgery.

The health fair is held the first Saturday in February each year to attract residents and snowbirds.
