J. Reuben Long detention center inmate dies

CONWAY, S.C. (WPDE) - Just after 3 p.m. Saturday J. Reuben Long Detention Center officers found an inmate unresponsive in a holding cell.

According to a news release, medical staff initiated CPR on Kenneth Randy Norman, 48. He was taken to Conway Medical Center where medical staff pronounced him dead. An autopsy will be performed tomorrow morning.

Norman was awaiting a bond hearing for a public intoxication charge. He was booked by Conway Police Department Friday afternoon.

SLED is conducting an inquiry. The release says a preliminary internal investigation shows no foul play has been detected.
