BURGESS, S.C. (WPDE) - Saturday morning around 11:30 Horry County police responded to a 911 call in the Island Green subdivision, in the Burgess community. Horry County Public Information Officer Lisa Bourcier says the call concerned an attempted suicide that was possibly in progress.

When officers arrived, Bourcier says they discovered a woman who had barricaded herself in a closet armed with a handgun.

"During the negotiations the subject acted in a manner that caused an officer to discharge their weapon and the subject was shot once in the leg," Bourcier explains.

Bourcier goes on to say the woman's injuries do not appear to be life threatening. She was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

No officers were injured in the incident. SLEDĀ is investigating, which is standard procedure for an officer involved shooting.

More information is expected to be released on Monday.
