For many years, the City of North Myrtle Beach has operated a curbside recycling collection program at no cost to its sanitation customers.
The City will now offer, at no charge, the use of recycling roll-carts in 64-gallon and 48-gallon sizes. Initially, this will be a voluntary program and recycling roll-carts will be provided as requested by sanitation customers.
The recycling roll-cart program will provide a more efficient way to increase materials collection, and it will make it easier for customers to participate.
All recycling materials collected are delivered to the Material Recovery Facility (MRF), which is operated by the Horry County Solid Waste Authority. The MRF sorts the materials and then arranges for their bulk sale to partially offset the cost of the County recycling program.
This program is jointly funded by the City of North Myrtle Beach and the South Carolina Department of Health & Environmental Control (SCDHEC) through a matching grant program.
North Myrtle Beach sanitation customers who would like a recycling roll-cart are asked to contact the City's Public Works Department at (843) 280-5500.
Customers will be instructed to leave the smaller recycling bin they have been using at curbside, and the City will exchange it for one of the new recycling roll-carts.
