Johnny Gardener and his wife, Kathy, walked up and down the sidewalk at the corner of Second Loop Road and South Irby Street in Florence Thursday morning.
They held anti-abortion signs and pushed a baby carriage with several dolls in it. They also placed dolls along the sidewalk.
The Gardners are a part of the group "Voice of the Unborn" out of Columbia.
The couple says they've come to Florence several times in the past with his anti-abortion message and thought it was time he visit the city again.
"We're here to stand up for the lives of our unborn children. We believe that, constitutionally, every child has a right to live according to the 5th and 14th amendments of our constitution. No one's life can be taken without due process of law. Unborn children have not broken any laws and no one has a right to just take their life," said Johnny Gardner.
The couple got a lot of attention from people passing by, asking questions about why they were in Florence.
The Gardner's gave out anti-abortion tracks and pamphlets to anyone who would take them.
Johnny Gardner said, "In South Carolina, over 350,000 unborn children have been murdered by abortion since 1973 and it's time for that to stop."
The couple also spread the word about a rally they're holding at the State House in Columbia on January 21st. They say the rally is a call to establish justice for the unborn.
The Gardners were allowed to protest without any interruption from police.
In 2006, the City of Florence paid $51,000 to a pro-life group for violating their first amendment rights.
The group protested near the downtown area in 2002 and five members were arrested by Florence police, saying they did not have a permit to hold a protest.
All charges were eventually dropped, but the pro-lifers sued the city.
