COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Maj. Gen. Abraham Turner is scheduled to testify Thursday to the Senate Labor Commerce and Industry Committee.

Earlier this week, Turner told a Senate panel about a new policy arlier this week, Turner told a Senate panel about a new policy requiring people to accept job offers that pay incrementally less than their previous wages. He also plans to reduce the number of weeks someone can receive unemployment benefits if they were let go for absenteeism, poor attitude, violating policy or poor work quality.

Turner said he wanted to brief the full committee before implementing the changes.

Republican Sen. Kevin Bryant says the changes don't go far enough. He says anyone fired for misconduct should not get any benefits.
