A Dillon County man has died after he crashed his car into a tree during a chase with a Marion County sheriff's deputy.
The Marion County Sheriff's Office says just before 1 p.m. Thursday, a deputy traveling on Bluff Road near Marion passed Kevin Dickerson, 30, driving at a high rate of speed.
The sheriff's office says the deputy turned around, put on his blue lights and attempted to pull Dickerson over.
About two miles into the chase, the sheriff's office says Dickerson crashed into a tree near the IGA on South Main Street
The sheriff's office has not released the speed of the chase.
Deputies say they first learned Dickerson was the driver when they ran his license tag and learned he was wanted in Dillon.
They have not said why he was wanted.
The Marion County Coroner says Dickerson died at the hospital from the injuries he suffered in the accident.
We will post more details as we get them.
