MARION -- The Marion County Sheriff's Office says just before 1 p.m. Thursday, a deputy traveling on Bluff Road near Marion passed a car going at a high rate of speed.

The sheriff's office says the deputy turned around, put on his blue lights and attempted to pull the car over.

About two miles into the chase, the sheriff's office says the suspect's car crashed into a tree near the IGA on South Main Street

The sheriff's office has not released the speed of the chase.

When deputies ran the license tag on the car, they say it came back to a man wanted in Dillon. Deputies have not released the man's name or said why Dillon police were looking for him.

Officers on scene say the suspect was seriously injured in the crash and was taken to the hospital.

We will post more details as we get them.
