South Carolina's gasoline prices have dropped 72 cents a gallon since peaking May 5th, according to AAA Carolinas.

The auto club says 1.17 million South Carolinians are expected to drive more than 50 miles from home this holiday season... with 92% driving, 6% flying, and 2% traveling by other means. That's a 3% increase over last year's travel totals.

"The drop in gasoline prices, higher air fares and fewer available flights on smaller planes, and the slowly improving economy mean more people will travel to visit family, friends and holiday destinations," said David E. Parsons, president and CEO of AAA Carolinas.

AAA says the average price in South Carolina is the cheapest since February 1st this year when gasoline was $2.90 a gallon and the lowest since peaking at $3.75 on May 5th.

Spartanburg has the cheapest gas at an average of $3.00 a gallon. The most expensive is Myrtle Beach at $3.06.
