NewsChannel 15 has learned Ed Edwards is now able to talk with his doctors and family.

Ten days ago, Edwards suffered a heart attack while fighting a nightclub fire, which appears to be arson, in Dillon County.

His fellow firefighters gave him CPR and he was taken by ambulance to McLeod Health in Dillon.

He was taken that same day to McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence where he remains.

His fellow firefighters tell us Edwards is doing good, but he may need surgery to repair four blockages leading to his heart.

Edwards is the assistant fire chief with the Dillon County Fire Department Station One.
