About 155 boxes are on their way to places like Afghanistan and the country of Georgia to bring some happiness to troops serving overseas.

The Blue Star Mothers gathered at the Socastee Post Office in Horry County to ship the boxes to our troops. Most of the packages will go to someone with a connection to the area, whether it's a Blue Star Mother's son or a friend of a friend.

Each box has a package of candy canes and a full Christmas stocking.

It cost about $2,000 to ship the boxes. But it only cost the Blue Star Mothers a little more than $1,500. A man at the post office today found out what the mothers were doing and paid $500 of the tab.

Carol Dion shared this with us. "...An older gentlemen asked what we were doing. We told him all about Blue Star Mothers and our packages. He said he wanted to help and asked if we were non profit. We told him we have all our numbers 501 (3)C. We told him we are all up to date. HE PULLED OUT HIS CREDIT CARD AND PAID FOR $500 TOWARDS OUR POSTAGE!!! Our total would have been $2025.64 without his generous donation, instead it was only $1525.64... There are Angels in Myrtle Beach, we met one today!!!"

The money for mailing and the goodies in the boxes all come from donations.
