The wife of a former South Carolina Supreme Court Chief Justice and businesswoman is running for the 7th Congressional District.
Debbie Harwell has completed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission.
Harwell owns a government and public relations firm that has worked on projects like the Myrtle Beach International Airport, and portions of Interstate 73.
She also was a co-host of a radio talk show on WRNN called "Steve, Debbie & Dave" for several years.
Harwell is married to David Harwell, retired Chief Justice of the South Carolina Supreme Court and a former state representative representing Florence. According to a press release, Harwell says she's running because, "Our people deserve better from the Federal Government than what we have been getting. Our country is a great one; but right now, we aren't seeing a responsible government."
Harwell joins Republicans Mande Wilkes, Dick Withington, Horry County Council Chairman Tom Rice, Renee Culler, State Representative Thad Viers, Florence attorney Jay Jordan and Myrtle Beach City Councilman Randal Wallace. Former South Carolina Lt. Governor Andre Bauer has filed paperwork, but has not announced his candidacy.
Democrats running include Myrtle Beach attorney Parnell Diggs and Chestfield County State Representative Ted Vick.
