Georgetown police have charged Chance Godwin Adams, 24, with animal cruelty, breach of peace, assault and battery second degree, and use of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.
Officers say on Saturday they were called to a home on Black River Road because of a man with a gun. The woman who lived at the home said her son had pointed a shotgun at her in their driveway. Officers found Adams walking on nearby Saville Street, ordered him to the ground and handcuffed him. Police say in their incident report, "Adams was sweating and breathing heavily. He was wearing odd matching clothing with ski goggles."
Police say Adams was armed with a pistol and a shotgun when he was arrested.
According to the incident report, Adams' mother told police he had a psychotic episode and destroyed their house the night before, even cornering her while armed with a shotgun.
While police were searching in and around the home for other weapons, they found a dead kitten in a charcoal grill. They say it appeared as though the cat was recently killed by burning in the grill in extreme temperatures.
Adams' mother told police the cat was a stray that had been seen around the house. She also told police the family dog was missing. The dog's collar was found by Adams' sister and was covered in blood. The dog has not been found.
